Mammut introduces LOOPINSULATION Active
Breathes on the ascent. Keeps you warm at rest.

Key facts at a glance
- LOOPINSULATION Active combines rope production scraps with recycled polyester and adapts to changing levels of exertion.
- Its accordion-like structure opens during movement to release heat and moisture and closes at rest to retain warmth.
- The Active version is used in the Aenergy Air IN Hooded Jacket and Aenergy Air IN Hybrid Shorts.
- Classic LOOPINSULATION provides warmth for cold conditions in the Sender IN Hooded Jacket and Sender Moc Low.
- According to the sustainability report for the 2025 financial year, LOOPINSULATION enabled 13.4 tonnes of rope scraps to be recycled.

Seon, Switzerland – Warmth 2.0: With LOOPINSULATION Active, Mammut presents the next generation of its proprietary insulation technology. The innovative fill combines rope production scraps with recycled polyester and dynamically adapts to changing activity levels. At the same time, it extends the life cycle of valuable materials, reduces production waste and helps lower the carbon footprint compared with conventional insulation materials.
Mammut has been manufacturing high-quality ropes for mountain use since 1862. With LOOPINSULATION, the Swiss company takes this a step further, turning rope production scraps into functional insulation for modern mountain sports apparel.
The idea emerged from a carbon footprint analysis in 2018. It showed that rope production and sales accounted for 13 percent of Mammut's emissions. The development team's task was clear: give used ropes and production waste a second life.
“As a rope manufacturer with more than 160 years of experience, we recognise not only the challenge but also our responsibility. Our goal was to develop solutions that keep valuable materials in circulation while meeting our customary high standards of quality and safety.”
The launch of LOOPINSULATION
LOOPINSULATION made its debut for the 2024 winter season. For the first time, Mammut presented products featuring insulation made from industrial rope production waste from its Austrian partner Teufelberger. The insulation consists of 100% recycled materials: 50% fibres from industrial rope production scraps and 50% recycled polyester (rPET). The rope scraps are mechanically untwisted, brushed out and processed into insulation fibres without chemicals, adhesives or water.
The concept is delivering results: the sustainability report for the 2025 financial year confirmed that LOOPINSULATION enabled 13.4 tonnes of rope scraps to be recycled.
Further development: LOOPINSULATION Active
Now Mammut is taking another step forward: LOOPINSULATION Active responds dynamically to changing levels of exertion. Unlike classic LOOPINSULATION, the Active version uses an accordion-like construction: during movement, the structure opens to allow excess heat and moisture to escape. At rest, it closes again, retaining body heat and protecting against the cold. The result is insulation that works according to the principle “Breathes on the ascent. Keeps you warm at rest.” and significantly improves comfort during changing levels of exertion.
One technology. Two areas of use.
The further development of LOOPINSULATION now provides two distinct solutions for different demands in the mountains:
LOOPINSULATION Active: Adaptive breathability for intensive movement and high exertion during ski touring, mountaineering, climbing and trail running.
Aenergy Air IN Hooded Jacket
This lightweight, versatile insulated jacket was developed for high-exertion activities such as ski touring or hiking. The LOOPINSULATION Active fill provides high breathability on the ascent while keeping you warm when you stop to enjoy the view from the summit.
Aenergy Air IN Hybrid Shorts
These packable shorts are made for fast ski tours and provide targeted warmth over softshell trousers. LOOPINSULATION Active supports temperature regulation on the ascent and provides additional insulation on the descent.
LOOPINSULATION: Reliable warmth for cold and changeable conditions.
Sender IN Hooded Jacket
This proven insulated jacket featuring classic LOOPINSULATION stands up to sub-zero temperatures. It provides warmth and protection in icy conditions, combining familiar Mammut performance with a circular approach to materials.
Sender Moc Low
This water-repellent shoe is a companion for the cold season, whether away from the trails or in everyday life: a winter-ready outsole provides secure grip on frosty ground, while Mammut LOOPINSULATION delivers consistent warmth.
