How we test
Transparency is the foundation of every BACKLINE test. All products are assessed over several days in real terrain by our testers, compared against each other and rated with a transparent points system. Here we explain the test methods for skis, backpacks and poles in detail.

Test location & conditions
Testing takes place over several days in real terrain – most recently in Lenzerheide, Graubünden. From powder to corn snow to hard and tracked-out conditions: only conditions that actually occurred during the test days were rated. All test locations from past years, including the team's assessments, are listed in the test locations overview.

Every tester brings years of experience as an athlete, instructor, coach or mountain and ski guide. Anyone under contract with a participating brand or receiving free equipment from it does not rate that brand's products – keeping the results independent and comparable.
